The CHIRAL-PRO project consortium is composed by experts in colloid synthesis and assembly, predictive modeling of nanoparticle-protein complexes and advanced electron microscopy, from Spain, Belgium and United States. All of them are deeply complementary and have a long history of collaboration.

Partners are the BioNanoPlasmonics group at CIC biomaGUNE and the Biomimetic Materials group at CINBIO, University of Vigo, both led by Professor Luis M. Liz-Marzán, the Electron Microscopy for Materials Science (EMAT) group led by Professor Sara Bals at the University of Antwerp and the Chemical Engineering group of Professor Nicholas A. Kotov at the University of Michigan. To achieve the ambitious goal of Chiral-Pro, the synergistic expertise of the three partners involved will be essential.

The laboratories at CIC biomaGUNE and the University of Vigo led by Dr. Liz-Marzán will be focusing mainly on synthesizing nanoparticles and understanding their growth mechanisms. The laboratory at the University of Antwerp, led by Dr. Bals, will be concentrating on the development of fast electron tomography techniques to identify the structure of nanoparticles in three dimensions and with high throughput, while the group led by Dr. Kotov at the University of Michigan has extensive experience in applying artificial intelligence to predict interactions between nanoparticles and biomolecules. All partners will work together in the implementation of case studies to demonstrate practical application of their fundamental discoveries.
